Clearity’s very own, Dr. Deborah Zajchowski, has been announced as a 2020 Ovarian Cancer Hero!
CURE’s Third Annual Ovarian Cancer Heroes® awards program recognizes individuals for their heroic contributions in the field of ovarian cancer. This year’s annual evening of gratitude and celebration will honor three extraordinary individuals from across the globe who have gone above and beyond, making a difference in the lives of those affected by ovarian cancer.
“The team at Clearity is honored that CURE Magazine has recognized Dr. Deb Zajchowski, our Scientific Director, as an Ovarian Cancer Hero. Since our founding in 2008, Deb has become a trusted friend to the ovarian cancer community. She is a brilliant scientist, a sound resource and a compassionate source of hope to hundreds of women and caregivers on this difficult journey. I know from the words of thanks we receive that our Clearity family would agree that this is an incredibly well-deserved recognition for Deb.” – Hillary Theakston, Executive Director
Deb Zajchowski has been a part of The Clearity Foundation since its founding in 2008. As the Scientific Director, Deb oversees Clearity’s treatment decision support services and research efforts. She ensures that our patients receive information about the most advanced treatment options for their unique ovarian cancer.
As a cancer biologist, Deb has been involved in cancer research and drug/target discovery and development for more than 25 years. After her sister Joanne was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2006, Deb learned as much as she could in order to help with any treatment decisions. Shortly after, not only was Deb’s close friend and colleague, Laura Shawver, diagnosed with ovarian cancer but her cherished friend and former partner, Peggy, was also diagnosed with an aggressive form of uterine cancer. Before Peggy’s passing, Deb made a promise to her that she would “try to help other patients understand their cancer diagnosis and options as I had tried to help her.” When Laura went on to create The Clearity Foundation in 2008, she brought Deb on board to provide scientific assistance, allowing Deb to fulfill that promise while impacting the lives of countless women and families facing an ovarian cancer diagnosis.
“When I became a patient client, Deb Zajchowski became a permanent and welcomed part of my medical team. Her compassion, knowledge, and constant monitoring have not only been a source of great comfort but, more importantly, her patient explanation of the profiling results have guided me in selecting treatment options for my first recurrence.” – Treatment Decision Support Patient
